Marcel Sabitzer drops hint over Man Utd future after frustrating setback
Manchester United loanee Marcel Sabitzer has refused to rule out the idea of staying at Old Trafford beyond the end of this season.
The Austrian signed on a temporary basis for the Red Devils from German giants Bayern Munich last month and has impressed with the opportunties he has recieved so far under boss Erik ten Hag. Sabitzer was signed in response to the injury Christian Eriksen suffered in January that will keep him out for the majority of the remainder of the campaign.
Sabitzer has wasted little time in slotting in, starting two of the three Premier League games he has featured in. The midfielder completed 90 minutes in a United shirt for the first time during last Sunday’s 2-0 away win at fiece rivals Leeds.
While there is no obligation or option to buy Sabitzer in his loan contract with United, that is not to suggest the club are against exploring the idea and the player himself has made comments that make for interesting reading in regards to his club future.
“It’s a loan at the moment, that’s all I can say,” the 28-year-old added. “I like it here, I’m feeling very good here, I like the team, I like the club, the atmosphere in Old Trafford. We will see what happens in the summer.
‘It’s been a busy few days. I had to come in quick but I enjoy it. I like it so far. The team welcome me very well. It was a bit of a cold start but I had to step in quick because of the Casemiro suspension. I’m ready for that and happy playing.
‘You can feel it. From the first moment on, I felt very good in the team – good spirit, good goals, we’re a good team. It’s fun. The manager talking to me a lot, what he’s expecting from me. I try to fulfil that. I’m feeling good with him and his tactics and I like it so far.”
The remarks are likely to spark hope among the Red Devils fanbase’, but they will be disappointed to discover Sabitzer cannot feature in Thursday’s huge Europa League round of 32 showdown against Barcelona.
This is because the midfielder picked up a suspension in the Champions League while playing for Bayern and it will remain in place for the Europa League, meaning Sabitzer will sit out the first-leg at the Camp Nou.
He is likely to play a big part in some of the other pivotal fixtures United have awaiting them this month, such as a league clash with Leicester City, the second meeting with Barcelona and a chance to win silverware in the League Cup final face-off against Newcastle at Wembley.
