Sir Alex Ferguson waited for Erik ten Hag like a proud dad after Man Utd’s Carabao Cup win
Manchester United ended their trophy drought with victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final. The Red Devils hadn’t won a trophy since 2017, but the six-year wait is over thanks to a professional performance over The Magpies.
Erik ten Hag guided his side to a 2-0 victory thanks to two goals in the opening 45. Firstly from Casemiro before Sven Botman turned into his own net. There were some nervy moments, but the Dutchman steered his ship home expertly.
He’s making quite the impression at Old Trafford, with their fans hopeful that today is a taste of things to come and they won’t have to wait another six years before getting their hands on silverware.
Sir Alex Ferguson meets Erik ten Hag in Wembley tunnel
Sir Alex Ferguson is a man who knows a thing about two when it comes to winning in Manchester. The legendary boss has an abundance of winners’ medals and it looks like his chats with the current man in the dugout have been fruitful.
There’s no hiding from the fact the club has declined severely without the Scot dictating from the touchline, but he has certainly been helping the new man in charge at Old Trafford. He was spotted with ten Hag a couple of days before the final, probably giving some last minute advice.
Whatever they spoke about over their meal clearly worked wonders as the Dutchman tasted his first piece of silverware in England and has built the foundations to only get stronger, or so the Old Trafford faithful will hope.

It shows the level of respect the legendary figure has for the Dutchman looking to create a similar legacy at the club, although he probably won’t surpass the Scot. But, the celebrations didn’t stop there for the players or management staff, as it appears the Scot joined in behind closed doors.
Melissa Reddy of Sky Sports claimed that: “Erik ten Hag has just invited Sir Alex Ferguson into the Manchester United dressing room to share this experience with the players.”
No matter where Fergie is, even in retirement, some things never change. The former manager can’t escape the good times and certainly knows a thing or two when it comes to celebrating trophies with the club.
