Erik ten Hag shows his elite mentality after Martin Tyler says: “Well done the other night”

Erik ten Hag has been praised by Manchester United fans for his response after commentator Martin Tyler congratulated him before Sunday’s Premier League clash against West Ham.

Tyler, the legendary Sky Sports commentator, was at Old Trafford to cover United’s most-recent fixture.

Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the game with an emphatic first-half header from a wonderful Christian Eriksen pass.

That was United’s second win in the space of three days, following a convincing 3-0 victory over Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Prior to kick-off on Sunday, Tyler congratulated Ten Hag for the win over Sheriff as the Man Utd manager walked out of the tunnel.

“Well done the other night,” Tyler said. “It was a good three points.”

In Ten Hag’s mind, however, that game was now firmly in the past and no longer mattered.

“New game,” the no-nonsense Dutchman responded. “New game, new day.”

Ten Hag has turned things around after poor start

Ten Hag’s United tenure got off to the worst possible start with back-to-back Premier League defeats against Brighton and Brentford.

But since recording a shock 2-1 victory over fierce rivals Liverpool on August 22, Ten Hag has continued to show why United chiefs were so determined to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer.

The 52-year-old’s side have since beaten the likes of Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham and currently sit fifth in the table, seven points off top spot, above Chelsea and Liverpool.

Ten Hag praised De Gea after win over West Ham

United rode their luck at times against West Ham but produced an excellent defensive performance to keep their clean sheet intact.

Goalkeeper David de Gea earned special praise from Ten Hag following an excellent display between the sticks.

“Everyone has his own opinion but for me, the first thing for a goalkeeper is to protect the goal and make sure you don’t concede goals,” Ten Hag was quoted as saying by BBC Sport after the match. “In that fact he is magnificent.

“But with the feet he has capabilities as well. That is not only with the keeper but also the one in front and what options you give to bring passes in.

“I am convinced he can do it. The games so far he proved it.”

Ten Hag will be hoping to keep up the winning run away at Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday night before back-to-back fixtures against Aston Villa in the Premier League and League Cup.
