Days after complaining on twitter, Leon Bailey gets away with ‘revenge’ on Lisnadro Martinez

Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez and Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey clashed again on Thursday night, days after an incident between the pair during Sunday’s Premier League fixture at Villa Park.

Bailey was unhappy that referee Anthony Taylor and VAR failed to punish Martinez during Villa’s 3-1 victory over the Red Devils last weekend.

“Very disappointed in the referees today,” Bailly tweeted after the match. “I couldn’t breath for a second after getting elbowed twice in my rib. The linesman went on to say I shouldn’t be saying anything because I was doing just the same thing to Martinez. Sometimes I don’t understand why we got VAR. SMH.”

Martinez was shepherding the ball out for a goal-kick when he left Bailly in pain on the floor after catching his opponent twice.

Martinez and Bailey clash again at Old Trafford

Bailey and Martinez were both second-half substitutes during Thursday’s Carabao Cup third round tie at Old Trafford.

And shortly before the final whistle, there was another altercation between the two players.

In footage that’s gone viral on social media, Bailey is seen kicking out at Martinez while he was on the ground.

Martinez, who is expected to be named in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup squad, didn’t appear to be injured after sustaining the kick to the knee.

Because VAR isn’t used in the Carabao Cup until the semi-finals, Bailey stood more of a chance of getting away with the kick.

Referee David Coote booked Bailey for the incident but the reaction of some of United’s players showed they believed a red card should have been issued.
