Clip of Roy Keane ’speaking the truth’ about Ronaldo goes viral

Roy Keane predicted the situation between Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United would “get ugly” weeks before he left the Tottenham game early.

Ronaldo has been dropped for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea after walking down the Old Trafford tunnel before full-time on Wednesday night.

According to the Daily Mail, Ronaldo refused to come on as a substitute towards the end of United’s 2-0 victory over Spurs.

The report adds that Ronaldo has been ‘openly critical of training’ and ‘believes United should play in a different way’.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side were deservedly praised for a superb team performance against Tottenham and look a more dynamic unit without the veteran forward leading the line.

Ronaldo took to Instagram on Thursday night, saying the “heat of the moment” got to him. While he stopped short of saying sorry it was still an apology of sorts.

Roy Keane predicted Ronaldo situation would become ‘ugly’

One pundit who envisaged this drama unfolding weeks ago is Ronaldo’s former teammate Keane.

Speaking after Man Utd’s 6-3 defeat to Man City on October 2, Keane accused the Red Devils of ‘disrespecting’ the 37-year-old.

Let’s check out some of the reaction:

What did Roy Keane say about Ronaldo?

“Man United are showing disrespect to Ronaldo,” Keane said. “I think he should’ve been let go before the transfer window [closed].

“I think the manager holding onto him, okay, you say you need options, but if you don’t hold onto Ronaldo to sit on the bench. He’s one of the greatest players ever, he had options, this idea that he had no options is rubbish. He did have options, four or five very good options.

“Okay, today, the manager brought [Anthony] Martial on, who scored two, so yeah that’s justified. But generally speaking, the bigger picture, he’s not going to play Ronaldo, we know that. He’s played in one or two European games, it’s just going to get uglier as the season goes on. Okay, Ronaldo’s motivated with the World Cup coming up. But if he’s sitting on the bench for Man United week-in week-out, it’s not good.

Cristiano Ronaldo on Manchester United's bench

“It’s just going to get ugly and I think United have shown nothing but disrespect to Ronaldo. They should have let him go when the opportunity came. He did have options to go, I know that for a fact, and holding onto him to sit on the bench… I think it’s ridiculous for a player of his stature.

“Even today, could he have brought him on? Of course, he could’ve brought him on. So what if you’re 4-0 down. If you look at his goalscoring record, he has as good a chance as anyone of putting the ball in the back of the net.

“People obsessed with the pressing side of the game… If you put the ball in the right areas, he’ll score goals.”

Will Cristiano Ronaldo leave Man Utd in January?

This week’s developments have increased the chances of Ronaldo leaving Old Trafford in January.

According to inews.co.uk, United could even release Ronaldo on a free transfer if no suitor can be found by super-agent Jorge Mendes
