Cristiano Ronaldo calls loss of baby son the ‘most difficult moment’ of his life

Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about the devastating loss of his baby boy in a wide-ranging interview with Piers Morgan, calling it the ‘most difficult moment’ of his life.

The Manchester United star revealed earlier this year that he and his partner Georgina Rodriguez had lost their newborn son.

Ronaldo and Rodriguez had been expecting twins on April 18, however, while the baby girl survived the pregnancy, the baby boy did not.

The 37-year-old has now opened up about the harrowing moment during a wide-ranging interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored. You can check out the clip below.

He told the TV host: “It was probably the worst moment that I have had in my life, since my father died.

“When you have a kid you expect that everything will be normal.

“When you have that problem, it’s hard.”

He added: “We don’t understand why it happened to us. It was a very difficult time for us.”

Ronaldo is the father of four other children, sons Cristiano Jr and Mateo, and daughters Eva and Alana.

The former Ballon D’or winner revealed the unfortunate news on Instagram on April 18, and then sat out the April 19 match against Liverpool.

He returned to the field the following week, scoring a goal against Arsenal and dedicating his celebration to his son by pointing to the sky.

Ronaldo touched on the difficult emotions that he felt about simultaneously welcoming a new child into the world and mourning the death of another.

He continued: “It’s crazy. I tried to explain some times to my family and close friends.

“I’ve never before felt happy and sad at the same moment.

“It’s so difficult, you don’t know if you’re going to cry or going to smile.

“It’s something you don’t know how to react to.”

Cristiano and Georgina shared the joint message to the player’s 432 million followers on Instagram at the time.

They wrote: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel.

“Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support.

“We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”

Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan has been an incredibly open and revealing one, touching on his feelings of ‘betrayal’ at Manchester United and feeling disrespected by coach Erik Ten Hag.
