Ferguson issues Ten Hag verdict as Man Utd choose Casemiro replacement

Manchester United enjoyed another positive weekend as they edged out Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils sit third in the Premier League, just three points behind local rivals Manchester City – a sign of the tremendous turnaround that Erik ten Hag has staged at the club since arriving from Dutch giants Ajax. They will be aiming to continue that run this coming week with a double-header against another of their fierce rivals, Leeds.

With that being said, here are all of the headlines coming out of Old Trafford one day before United take to the pitch once again.

Iconic former Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been left hugely impressed by Ten Hag’s work at Old Trafford. According to reports, the club’s stunning form has ‘lifted the spirits’ of the Scot.

The positive run has also left Ferguson ‘enthused’ by Ten Hag, something that cannot be said for many of his successors. The 81-year-old’s passion for the club has also seen him attend a number of away matches in order to see the side in action.

De Gea identifies Casemiro replacement

United goalkeeperDavid de Gea is confident that new signing Marcel Sabitzer can fill in for Casemiro during the Brazilian’s three-game suspension. The former Real Madrid star won’t be eligible to play a Premier League match until March after being shown a straight red card for violent conduct against Crystal Palace.

However, Spanish shot-stopper De Gea is confident that on-loan Bayern Munich star Sabitzer will be capable of filling the vacancy after he came off the bench to make his debut against the Eagles. He said: “Sabitzer showed already, he played 15 to 20 minutes and he did really well, made some good tackles, he is good with the ball and everyone is ready to play.”

Ten Hag makes wonderkid call

Red Devils boss Ten Hag has taken a brutal stance on the development of young players, having only invited one out of the club’s three most promising youngsters into the first team. Defender Tyler Fredricson, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and striker Charlie McNeil were all previously training with the senior stars.

But Mainoo, 17, is the player who has stood out to Ten Hag, and he has been handed two senior appearances for United, in the EFL Cup against Charlton and the FA Cup against Reading.
