Man Utd never had chance to sign £15.5m Argentine forward
Man Utd never had a chance to sign ulian Alvarez, with their bitter rivals Manchester City thought to have secured the Argentine’s services on a long-term deal.
The Citizens are yet to officially announce the transfer of the 21-year-old attacker, however, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that a move to take the Argentine forward from River Plate to the Etihad Stadium is complete.
According to Romano, the Citizens will pay €18.5m (£15.5m), who has agreed on a deal with Pep Guardiola’s team until June 2027, however, will stay on loan at River until July.
The 20-times English champions were also rumoured with the South American earlier this month, however, it is alleged that Ralf Ragnick’s side were ‘never close’ luring him at Old Trafford.
Alvarez has managed to found back of the net 36 times and provided 25 assists in 96 games for River Plate, while he has been capped on five occasions by Argentina.
