Man Utd prepare for January exits as Erik ten Hag eyes Federico Chiesa transfer
Manchester United have been prudent in the January transfer window after spending in excess of £200million last summer, but Erik ten Hag could still add to his squad before next week’s deadline.
United have already snapped up Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst on loan for the remainder of the campaign. However, it is believed that Ten Hag would like to add another attacking option to his squad if the right opportunity were to present itself.
A host of names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, but with United unlikely to splash out on any monster fees, there is a limited pool of options. Here, rounds up all the latest transfer news involving United…
Ten Hag keen on Chiesa
Manchester United are one of the club’s ‘shadowing’ Juventus forward Federico Chiesa, according to a new report from Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb.
Chiesa is also interesting the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea and has been a consistent performer for Juventus, who are in the midst of a scandal relating to their past financial dealings. As a result, Juve are reportedly willing to cash in on some of their prized assets – and Chiesa, who starred for Italy in their Euro 2020 triumph, would have attract plenty of suitors.
It remains to be seen if Juventus would sanction Chiesa’s exit this month, meaning a summer move could instead be on the cards for the winger, who has spent the majority of the season sidelined through injury.
Manchester United are willing to send a handful of their burgeoning young talents out on loan before next Tuesday night’s transfer deadline.
Midfield prospect Charlie Savage is already on the verge of joining League One strugglers Forest Green Rovers for the remainder of the season and the Manchester Evening News claims other youngsters could follow suit.
The likes of Charlie McNeill, Di’shon Bernard and Bjorn Hardley could also spend the next few months away from Old Trafford if interest materialises in the coming days.
Weghorst eyes permanent move
Wout Weghorst has only been at Manchester United for a little over a week, but already the on-loan Burnley man is eyeing up a permanent move. Weghorst broke his United duck in Wednesday night’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg.
Earlier this week, the big Dutch striker said: “Of course I want to stay longer. I’ve seen the first week and how big the club is, in everything, the facilities, the club, even the quality in the team and the way we’re playing.
“There’s a lot of quality in everything and that’s something you look to work in, to be in a winning atmosphere. I think the first week went well and it’s up to me to deliver and contribute and help the team as much as I can. I’m quite confident I can play a role in it.”
